Hiroki talks about the creative process behind Apple’s celebrated marketing communications. He will share his thoughts on managing groups of creatives to work at large scale. Learn how creative concepts come from unexpected places and hear about Apple brand design, video, and advertising from the man who led marketing communications under Steve Jobs for more than a decade. Hiroki will also share lessons that small businesses can take away from his experience at Apple.

with Molly Jacques, Letterer and Type Designer

Have you been curious about Procreate and lettering with your iPad? In this class, Molly will go over the basics of Procreate and how you can use the program to create beautiful hand lettering. Learn how to navigate the many tools within Procreate, take advantage of digital features like layers and brushes, and so much more!

We highly encourage bringing an iPad Pro with Procreate App installed and Apple Pencil (or other iPad Pro compatible stylus).

In this higher-level course, Molly will dive deeper into the features of Procreate to help you take your digital lettering to the next level. She will go over more advanced Procreate tips & tricks, such as incorporating textures, creating your own brushes, utilizing plug-ins, and more!

Small Brands That Get It Right

Learn the basics of creating digital repeat patterns in Photoshop and completing in Illustrator. In this class, Jen will go over types of repeat patterns, deciding on the scale of design elements, how to achieve a seamless “tossed” pattern, and more!

Minted's General Counsel, Jordan Zamir, will help artists think through the legal aspects of managing a creative business and selling and licensing artwork. In this session, Jordan will go through the basics of intellectual property and understanding your rights and obligations when creating work for yourself and others.

How to Produce Creative Process Videos for Social Media (Workshop)

with Laura Bolter, Lettering Artist

Video is a powerful strategy for growing engagement on your social media accounts. In this session, Laura Bolter will share tips that have helped her attract nearly 10,000 Instagram fans. She will demonstrate how to create process videos, share the tools that she uses, and teach you the basics of using Adobe Premier to edit your video for social. Minted Creative Directors Annie Clark and Sean Flanagan will discuss how Minted uses process videos in our marketing.

Intro to Watercolor Florals (Workshop) - Opportunity 1 of 2

with Juliet Meeks, Artist and Surface Pattern Designer

Learn the basics of painting illustrative watercolor florals with artist and surface designer Juliet Meeks. This workshop is open to watercolor beginners or for anyone more advanced interested in exploring new styles of painting florals. We will use fresh bouquets as our inspiration, with an approach of creating perfectly imperfect illustrations that are naturally fun to paint.

All supplies provided, but bring your favorite brushes if you have them! This session will be repeated.

Learn how to prepare your own hand lettering (scanned or iPad-created) to import it into Fontself, a tool that lets you turn any lettering into OpenType fonts in minutes. In this beginner-level course, Carolann will walk through the high-level process of creating your own font. She will use Fontself to demonstrate how to produce a final font file complete with alternate characters and ligatures. Carolann will also suggest other programs that you could use to create fonts.

Minted's 10th Anniversary Dinner + Awards Ceremony

Come celebrate Minted’s 10-year Anniversary on our last night at Camp Minted. We will host a short Awards Ceremony, where we will recognize exceptional artists for embodying important community values and pushing the boundaries of art and design.

To get in a celebratory mood, the dress code is "Desert Chic.” Think breezy maxi dresses and jumpsuits, and lightweight suits and airy button-up shirts. We will be indoors.

Intro to Modern Calligraphy with Brush Pen (Workshop)

In this two-hour session, students will learn beginner-level techniques of brush pen calligraphy. Learn how to use the tools and practice the lowercase alphabet to gain a better understanding of the forms and proportions of the letters.

with Erin Armstrong, Business Tax & Money Coach for Creatives

If you ever feel like you could do better when it comes to the money side of business, this workshop is for you! Let's clarify some of the most confusing financial issues, address how to keep more money in your pocket (such as lucrative business tax deductions), and talk all things accounting and tax for creatives. We will also cover the basics for hiring help and creating a budget.

Work with pen, ink, and pencil to bolster your illustration and drawing techniques for Minted stationery. Learn how to scan and prep traditional linework for digital use, how to separate linework for coloring, and how to use digital coloring techniques. You will leave with increased confidence in utilizing and digitizing hand drawn illustrations in your design.

The community is one of the main reasons why artists participate with Minted. A panel of early Minted artists share their personal stories of how they forged meaningful professional and personal relationships in the community. Then, we will ask each of you to help us shape the future of the Minted community. In small-group roundtable discussions, you will share your thoughts on how to make Minted the best creative community in the world, where artists feel supported and connected.
